M1 Garand rifle was first issued with M1905 16" bayonet. In 1942, the US Military determined that a shorter bayonet was more useful.Existing stocks of M1905 bayonets were cut down to 10". In addition, new manufacture 10" bayonets were also produced. Cut-off-bayonets have fuller that extends to the point and new manufacture has fullers that stop about 3" from the point.
